About the coverart

1- Angel

A song about the greatest singer ever: Billie Holiday!

She's my angel in black. She learned me how to listen.....

Drums: Jacques "James" Audenaert

Bass: Jo Rouckhout

" My angel in black, will you ever come back to this place in my heart?

Angel of mine. Truth’s not for sale so I won’t lie anymore.

She’d lived more than a lifetime before she was 21. Got kicked around kicked from school.

She could spot a hustler  from three blocks away but was naïve about so many things.

Made her choice for variety number 4, instantaneous effect is what she wants.

And when the addicts’ high every problem large or small gets blown to smithereens

My angel is red, raging with fear.

Never get set, sweet angel of death.

Angel of mine, truth’s not for sale so I won’t lie anymore.

My angel in black will you ever come back to this place in my heart"?

2- Dreams of glory

You can die for an idea as long as the idea doesn't die.

If you feel it's right, your heart stays true.

Drums: Jacques "James" Audenaert

Bass: Jo Rouckhout

Backing vocals: Eric Grosemans

"At first we stood and we held on to each other as we fought this damn war.

Then winter came and it drove us to hardship, so we ran, we ran for shelter.

Bitter dreams, dreams of glory, seem to fade – fade away.

Seldom it seems you can make a difference, but then your heart tells you it’s true

When spring came we went, back into the hills, cause they came and chased us away.

We were trapped in dreams of glory, feeling cold and alone at night.

Came summer, came a truce, meaning it’s all over. We never knew who won, never cared to ask.

We gave up our arms and walked back to our lives, to our homes, to our youth.

Bitter dreams, dreams of glory, seem to fade – fade away.

Seldom it seems you can make a difference, but then your heart tells you it’s true.

Bitter dreams, dreams of glory, at what price, at what cost?

Seldom it seems you can make a difference, but if you don’t, your heart gets lost".

3- Feels like rain (John Hiatt)

A truly great song by one of the greatest songwriters.

You can smell the heavy air of the deep south of the US

by the end of the summer. I hope I do the song justice.

Drums: Jacques "James" Audenaert

Bass: Jo Rouckhout

"Down here the river meets the sea and in that sticky heat I feel you open up to me.

Love comes out of nowhere, baby, just like a hurricane and it feels like rain.

Lying underneath the stars right next to you. Wondering who you are and how do you do?

The clouds are rolling across the moon and the wind howls out your name and it feels like rain.

We ain’t ever gonna  make that bridge tonight, baby across lake Pontchartrain and it feels like rain.

So batton down the hatches, baby, leave your heart out on your sleeve.

It looks like we’re in for stormy weather and that ain’t no cause for us to leave.

Just lie here in my arms and let it wash away the pain and it feels like rain….".

4- Astro-not

A song about childish creativity and how quickly it is restrained while growing up. Tell me, little man,

what will you be when you grow up?

Peter remembers the summer of 69 when his father woke him up to watch the first landing on the moon.

The song was written in the nineties when Belgium had its first astro-not: Dirk Frymout.

Love it. The obvious choice for the first single!

Drums: Jacques "James" Audenaert

Bass: Jo Rouckhout

Backing vocals: Eric Grosemans

"Astro-not on pilgrimage. You’re wasting time on baby food.

Car mechanic, rockstar, dog watcher on marmalade.

Substitute teacher, parking lot attendant, Chinese cook on overdrive.

Sad song writer, pub owner talk show host eat scrambled eggs".

5- Call my name (De Middeleir/Grosemans/Martens)

This song actually started out as a metal riff...... Eric (singer of No Problem) came up with the lyrics and turned it into something personal.

Drums: Jacques "James" Audenaert

Bass: Jo Rouckhout

"It’s astounding how life has its ways…things are changing, nothing stays the same.

A new world opens and an old one disappears. I sit, watch and wonder and think…what the hell I’m doing here?

Yes, things are changing, much too fast. I tried to rearrange mistakes I’ve made in the past.

A new world opens and an old one disappears. I sit, watch and wonder and think…what the hell I’m doing here?

Call my name and I will come along. In this game we all stand alone…

Oh, so astounding how things are going around. Old memories I’ve lost and new ones that I’ve found.

An old love dies and a new one comes along still I can’t figure it all out, but I try to hold on.

Call my name and I will come along in this game we all play along.

Call my name and I will try to hold on I just want to play and sing, sing you this song".

6- Life with no sleep

Yes, bad times stories! We've lost so much in recent times: trust, understanding, solidarity,

love....so....how can we sleep?

Drums: Jacques "James" Audenaert

Bass: Jo Rouckhout

Backing vocals: Eric Grosemans

"(Fear fear....this city's dressed for fear)

This is the city of fear where we close-watch each other.

Not in a malicious way – we’re much too good –but look out if you’re not from around.

Most times you make us feel uneasy the way you look with those greedy eyes.

I’m tellin’ you…it’s my life, my car…you know. So take a walk….go!!!!!

This is the planet of hope this is the way we believe.

And it’s only said that we try hard ….this is a life with no sleep.

We’re dedicated to peace, determined to make our way.

Why do we walk a hasty pace? This is a life with no sleep......".

7- Hit and run

I don't believe in violence as a means for solving problems. On the other hand: when someone

harms the ones you love....how far would you go?

Drums: Jacques "James" Audenaert

Bass: Jo Rouckhout

"Side by side/ Man to man / an eye for an eye, do what you can.

Front to front and back to back, all on one, each for every man.

On the run since our last encounter knowing all too well we were no match for them.

They chased us like rabbits, they chased us like haunted, they rose from the dead so many there were.

No no we don’t come a no more, since we hit and run baby, we don’t come a no more.

No no they tell it ain’t so, since we hit and run, baby, we don’t come a no more.

They caught us offguard, settling in for the night, takin’ care of our boys, restore lost pride.

No chance in the open so we’d  quickly decide we had to hit and run instead of just fight.

Side by side/ Man to man / an eye for an eye, do what you can.

Front to front and back to back, all on one, each for every man.

No no we don’t come a no more, since we hit and run baby, we don’t come a no more.

No no they tell it ain’t so, since we hit and run, baby, we don’t come a no more.

They’d set fire to our houses, houses and farms, family’s and friends were run down.

We were caught in a mousetrap like hit and run knights hit and run knights of a long lost cause.

So we’d tracked them down like an indian scout, hit quick and fast disappear in the night.

We were called grey shadows fading into the night. When we’d hit and run we had nine lives.

Side by side/ Man to man / an eye for an eye, do what you can.

Front to front and back to back, all on one, each for every man".

8- Soldiers' dream (De Middeleir/ Imrie)

The lyrics of this song are an actual soldiers'poem written by J (Ginger) Imrie.

It's simple, it's pure....it's beautiful.

Drums: Filip Van Den Brande

Bass: Ruud Delange

Accordeon: Karel Herregodts

"Last night as I lay dreamin’ I heard myself give a sigh.

For I dreamt I was back in my homeland again free from the dust and flies.

Back to the land of the heather to walk where I played as a boy.

Back to the mother that loves me in this soldiers’ only joy.

There is someone else who is visiting the girl who is dear to my heart.

And when we meet on the Scottish shore never more will we ever part.

I hope my prayers will be answered to return to the ones I adore.

And there we will live in heavenly peace and go roaming never more……..".

9- Love and pearls

What if love becomes a lie? Love can be so powerfull yet so destructive...

Drums: Jacques "James" Audenaert

Bass: Jo Rouckhout

"When love is the truth, we will go down, on a bed full of lies. Truth not around.

Hiding behind masks, love cannot make come down.

When love is a lie, I hope it will die, for we missed a chance for a walk in the skies, while sleeping in our lies.

Love cannot make come down. When love is a lie, I hope it will die.

I gave you pearls, you’ve never seen. Was it a lie? Was it a dream?

We could have had everything by just being ourselves, all on our own.

We reached the sky that grew further away, things we never said, things we never gained...

instead of just being ourselves, all on our own.

Love cannot make come down. When love is a lie, I hope it will die.

Love cannot make come down, for we missed a chance for a walk in the skies".

10- Armagideon ( Willie Williams)

I know this song in the version of The Clash. I always loved the early punkbands.

The Clash stood out however. I've seen them in concert a few times and this song

stayed with you for a long time. Great stuff!!

Drums: Wim Van Kerkhove

Bass: Ruud Delange

Backing vocals: Eric Grosemans

"Hey now, hey now this old world ain’t gonna get me down.
Hey now, hey now this old world ain’t gonna get me down.

A lot of people won’t get no supper tonight.

A lot of people won’t get no justice tonight.

A lot of people won’t get clean water tonight.

A lot of people won’t find no shelter tonight.

You can ask them and talk it over or you can guide them through armagideon.

A lot of people won’t get no education at all.

A lot of people won’t go to school at all.

A lot of people will learn how to hate you tonight.

A lot of people will learn how to fight tonight.

You can bring them peace and win them over or face them in armagideon.

A lot of people won’t get no love and care tonight.

A lot of people won’t get no understanding tonight.

A lot of people won’t get no food tonight.

A lot of people won’t find no shelter tonight.

Hey now, hey now this old world ain’t gonna get me down. Hey now, hey now this old world ain’t gonna get me down. Hey now, hey now this old world ain’t gonna get me down. Hey now, hey now this old world ain’t gonna get me down.......".

11- This song's for you

This song is about how difficult it is when you're in a band to stay focused. It wasn't meant to be on the album, but, hey....

it's a good song and it feels like it's the cherry on the cake.

Drums: Jacques "James" Audenaert

Bass: Jo Rouckhout

"Now it ain’t what you do, it’s what you ain’t done
There’s a road ahead there’s a part behind

Now some might think this song’s for you
How they’re wrong, my baby, I’m gone

You try to follow my ways, but I don’t know where I’ll be
Same time tomorrow or next year

Now some might think this song’s for you
How they’re wrong, my baby, I’m gone

All the things we’ve done, I wouldn’t live without ‘ em
The things we’ve had just won’t come back"

About the coverart:

coverfoto overview

The photos on this webpage are fragments of the coverphoto that inspired the coverart of the " Bad Times Stories"-cd.

The photo was taken by Dorothea Lange: " Children living in a camp between Weedpatch and Lamont, Kern County,

California, 04-12-1940". Just a detail tells us that the rent was 2.75$ plus electricity.....

In my opinion Dorothea Lange is the visual equivalent of great songwriters like Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger.
